The Cook Islands has been spared thus far from having any cases of COVID-19 (despite extensive testing), and the Cook Islands Government has taken a significant range of measures in line with the World Health Organization protocols and in consultation with the Ministries of Health of New Zealand and Australia to help protect our local people and the wider community from this virus. As there are no longer visitors coming to the Cook Islands at this time, tourism businesses in the Cook Islands are now temporarily closed until further notice.
Major Rarotongan Resort Group Refresh
Meantime all our staff at all three of our sister resorts – The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Lagoonarium, Sanctuary Rarotonga-on the beach and Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort - are super busy getting ready for a grand reopening. We are making the most of this time to conduct a complete spring clean and refurbishment of all guest rooms, restaurants, bars, spas, activities areas and more as well as all back-of-house functions including water purification plants, electricity generators, sewage treatment plants, laundries and so on.
There are many jobs that are difficult to carry out in an operating hotel filled with guests that we are taking the opportunity to attend to during this period such as replacing roofs, guest room refurbishment, laying water pipes, running electrical lines and cables, construction, beach nourishment, planting new gardens and laying irrigation systems. In addition, we are upgrading all of our computer systems to enable us to more efficiently and effectively service our guests upon reopening. Simultaneously, we are reviewing all of our policies and procedures as well as retraining all staff members.
We will be introducing new menus in all of our restaurants and bars, new spa menus, new activities programmes, new kids club programmes and much more. All our sales and marketing collateral, including our online presence, is being refreshed and upgraded to enable guests to more quickly get the information they need to plan their holidays with us. This will involve exciting new technologies such as artificial intelligence and chatbots. We are all working towards a grand reopening to welcome back our guests with all three of our beautiful resorts in the best shape they have ever been in and with a motivated staff fresh from a comprehensive retraining programme and supported by the latest technology, raring to go!
If you or your client has an existing reservation on non-refundable or flexi rates, you can change the reservation to a new date for travel any time up to 31 March 2022 (subject to availability) without any penalty or change fee, when advised in writing to the Resort no later than 7 days prior to travel. This concession is currently available until 31 May 2020.

If you or your client chooses a flexi rate, the cancellation period has been reduced from 30 days to 24 hours for reservations made by 31 May 2020 for travel to 31 March 2022.
If you or your client chooses to take advantage of the savings offered by a non-refundable rate, please note that a non-refundable rate is not refundable. You are advised to purchase travel insurance to cover any unforeseen eventualities.

Please be aware that should a guest have made their reservation through a third party (a physical or online travel agency) then they must contact that agency in the first instance to make any date changes to their stay. They are also welcome to contact the resort to advise us of their proposed new travel dates, but the change cannot be formally confirmed to them until made by the channel they first booked through.
